Rural Alaskan residents face major imptcas of the future. So far the cost of living is overly expensive, groceries in rural areas arrange from spending $200.00 or more on daily essentials needed. Gasoline and heating fuel is up to $8.00 a gallon. A cord of wood ranges fro $250.00- $300.00. The lack of jobs in most communities pays a major toll on most Alaska Native Residents in rural communities. Forcing them to leave their village lifestyle and embrace the city life. Since the cost of living is so high this leads most rural residents to live on Government assisted programs.Leading to Tribal members not living their traditional lifestyle. Not living off the land and not doing their subsistence activities. for most Tribes I believe they should step up and help their Tribal members. The Tribes should look into opening a local grocery store, gas station and find a heating source that can help their Tribal members. If we get the leadership we need on our Tribal councils, leaders who are advocates for all tribal members and not just for themselves.
